Shots from the road

turbine blade

Here's a wind turbine blade headed west on I-74 somewhere between Danville and Champaign, Ill.

I find it really encouraging to see the components of new wind farms on the highways. There's something about getting electricity from wind power that feels like cheating - getting something for free. I realize that it will be some time before these big wind turbines pay for themselves, but it still feels like free electricity.

circle k

And here's what the management of a Circle K gas station/convenience store in Champaign, Ill., think guys like in the way of restroom decor. You can check your weight buy condoms and get a shot of cologne all in one spot. Of course, the paper towel dispenser needed refilling and we are forced to use the loose roll of towel paper atop the cologne dispenser.

The final stats from my Garmin GPS:
Total miles: 968.5
Moving time: 15 hours, 47 minutes
Moving average speed: 61.3 mph
Maximum speed: 80.7 mph
