I glimpsed a flash of movement by my feet as I walked from the car to the garage a few minutes ago and spied a lizard with a brilliant blue tail scurrying up the brick wall between the garage door and the electrical panel.
I called Maria out to have a look and neither of us had any idea what it was. It scooted under the electrical panel before I could bring a camera to bear.
But a Google search for "lizard blue tail" quickly revealed this photo and the information that our visitor was a five-lined skink, one of the most common lizards in the eastern United States. I guess I've not been paying attention all these years, because I don't recall ever seeing one of these guys before. It was about 5 inches long.
