This lidded half-liter stein features the 1968 BMW R60US. Rather than the Earles Fork front suspension that was common on mid-1960s BMWs, the R60US (made for the U.S. market) had telescopic forks and a 600cc boxer engine that developed 30 hp. With some modification, the US forks were used on the /5 models, which were introduced in 1970.
Curiously, BMW built R60s with both fork designs in 1968 and 1969. The R60US was typically fitted with the bench saddle shown here.
In the U.S., all Earles fork and US fork models from 1955-69 are sometimes lumped together as /2 BMWs, even though that is technically incorrect. Not all of them have the official /2 designation.
