Stein of the Day

German MG

This is a half-liter German stein commemorating a soldier’s service with a machine gun unit. Judging from the uniform, helmet and OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA machine gun pictured, it dates from the mid- to late 1930s.

It has the usual pebbled pewter lid with the distinctive German stahlhelm (steel helmet) in profile and surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves.

In portraying the Reich War Flag as fluttering, the artist made it grotesquely long.
