I’m marking the last day before my 64th birthday by listening to “When I’m Sixty-four” from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
“Will you still need me? Will you still feed me when I’m 64?”
That seemed so absurdly abstract when I first heard it back in the spring of 1967. Now it’s been more than 40 years since Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.
I got my first birthday greeting this afternoon from Australian pen pal of my youth, Winston Sleaford down in Queensland, Australia. Since he’s on the other side of the International Dateline, it’s already July 14 in his world.
