SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – It’s still an hour before sunrise. Shoney’s isn’t open yet, so I’m going to shower and load the bike before breakfast.
The weather radar looks encouraging and with any luck I should be able to skirt the showers in northern Arkansas and have another rainsuit-free day. I hope.
Something here has my hay fever allergies cranked up to an unusually severe level. I developed hay fever when I was about 10 and it was a guaranteed 6-8 weeks of late summer misery every year until I got into my late 30s when it mostly went away. Since then, it takes a really heavy dose of allergens to get to me, but that’s what’s happening this morning.
