Lauri Shillings reports that longtime Crawfordsville Journal Review reporter Doug Hunt died this afternoon.
I shared a Hoosier State Press award with Doug a few years ago for our coverage of the life and death of one of the first flag-raisers on Iwo Jima. He was the institutional memory of the Journal Review and a community treasure.
Doug had been in poor health all the time I knew him because of a failing transplanted kidney.
He was a real newsie. I can’t think of a higher compliment. I shot this photo of Doug as he watched a half-block of downtown Crawfordsville go up in flames one spring morning.
