BMW Motorrad produces its own line of commemorative model pins. This is their version of the venerable R100RS. It had a 980cc air-cooled boxer engine and was introduced in 1976. It was produced through 1984, the ‘84 models bearing the “Last Edition” label. However, the worldwide demand for the classic design was such that BMW resumed production of the R100RS in 1986 and the actual “last edition,” albeit without the label on the side panels, came out in 1992. It was replaced in 1993 with the introduction of the R1100RS with BMW’s redesigned oil-cooled boxer engine.
I dearly loved my graphite gray ‘81 R100RS. It was my first true touring motorcycle and it changed my life.
