Stein of the Day

slash5

This half-liter stein features a BMW motorcycle from the /5 series. The series included the R50/5 (500cc), R60/5 (600cc) and R75/5 (750cc) and was produced from 1970 through July 1973. The bottom of the stein bears the name of Butler & Smith, the New Jersey firm that imported BMW motorcycles to the United States during that period.

The stein was given to me by the legendary Floyd “Pop” Dreyer back in the 1980s when I wrote a weekly motorcycle column for The Indianapolis News. I bought my first BMW bike in 1981 – a ‘71 R50/5.
